Notes to the link above, which you can read from my blogger.com site:

The article has been my musings over topics that I thought are related and get into my mind one after the other: penis rings, nude yoga and the sexual custom on ‘palang’ in ancient Cebu (when the Spaniards have yet to come and conquer the Philippines where they stayed for 3 centuries). I’ve always wondered what could have happened to the Philippines if the Spanish colonizers didn’t show up in the 16th century. Thinking aloud: it would have not ended as a separate state as it is because its geographical make-up that’s composed of over 7,100 islands would have been turned into many island nations. But then again I could be very wrong.

The topic’s very intriguing and worthy of time doing serious research because the ancient people in Cebu (and most probably in nearby islands) practiced the extensive use of what we can consider as ‘genital locks’ that women-folk would be wearing when they’re engaged in sexual intercourse with the men-folk. Using such, they’d engage in sex for long hours. The Spaniards considered such practices totally disgusting – I think they’re disgusted because they could see women were powerful and in control, and worst, in charge of the sexual act (which sacred act I believe should be always the case as women are physically made up as vessels and they ought to know their bodies very well and ought to be in charge whoever gets to be allowed to get inside). The Spaniards soon put an end to the practice, and now we’re all suffering from all these useless taboos that get in the way of our sexual lives. Similar to what happened when St Augustine converted to Christianity from his wanton ways when he was younger (he even had a son!) and later on made many Christians feel guilty about engaging in sexual acts, which should be seen as part of God’s grace and mercy to us His creations.

And penis rings and nude yoga connect to some extent, though perhaps direct, with this ‘palang’ practice because the men-folk in ancient Cebu wore what we call nowadays as ‘cock rings.’ For whatever use these cock rings were, we can can only make intelligent but not malicious guesses. And I like to believe the men-folk as well as all the others in the communities were familiar with the ways of the yoga – read materials where the influence of the wisdom of those from India had been felt in many islands of the Philippines even prior to the arrival of the Spaniards. Of course, they might not have been practicing yoga per se as we know it now. But still, the southern islands of the Philippine archipelago, even up to islands up north where Manila is located in Luzon, were considered part of the ancient Majapahit Empire that covered Indonesia and other nearby archipelagos. The key to these observations is the extensive use of the word ‘Rajah’ or local kings (loosely translated), an Indian term too, which indicates the influence of the Indian culture in many islands of the Philippines before the Muslims conquerors showed up (who were then fought over by the Spaniards who came all the way from Europe, which Magellan pioneered!).

There you go; share here what you may have in mind on these topics. Do more research and you’ll be liberated in the process from the shackles of practices that we ought to be studying more closely if they’re useful or not in our lives these days.
